Ghagar Buri Temple is a revered Hindu shrine located in Asansol, India. Dedicated to Goddess Chandi (a fierce form of Durga), the temple holds cultural and spiritual importance in the region and is one of Asansol’s oldest religious sites. It attracts devotees for its serene riverside setting and local festivals.
According to local lore, the temple was founded after a natural rock formation resembling the goddess was discovered on a hill beside the Nunia River. Over time, devotees built a shrine around it, transforming the site into a major seat of worship. The name “Ghagar Buri” roughly translates to “Old Lady by the River,” reflecting its mythic origins.
